Drake Cereal’s packaging design for Sunday Coffee Project in Portland, Oregon, defies the conventional minimalism of the specialty coffee industry, opting for a loud and playful approach. The decision to package the coffee in cereal boxes, inspired by nostalgic Saturday mornings filled with cartoons and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, injects a vibrant and whimsical element to the brand. Drawing influence from children’s books, each box features a unique character on the front and a playful game on the back. With side panels boasting a word search and a checklist, the packaging invites engagement, creating an innovative and delightful experience for consumers.

Sunday Coffee Project (Portland, OR) is a small coffee roaster focused on high quality & exciting coffees. The specialty coffee industry often leans very minimal and clean in its branding and design. However, when my wife and I were brainstorming concepts for SCP, we knew we wanted to go in the opposite direction. We wanted something loud and playful. Something that would add a bit of color to the shelves. Something that our kids would want to engage with.
