Student Week: Fougère Royale’s Gorgeously Abstract Typography

Published

Typography and color take over student designer Sara Solén’s packaging design for OSMOTHEQUE. The stunning oversized, abstract typography creates an attractive pattern that’s completely distinctive, while the gradient green box creates an aura of earthy, citrus scent that’s visually descriptive of the smells within. It’s simple, but the distinguishing typography takes this design to the next level.

This is a school project where I got to create a fictional rebranding for an old and classic scent from the perfume archive OSMOTHEQUE. I was given the famous and groundbreaking perfume Fougère Royale (”Royal Fern”) by Houbigant from 1882. Its visual identity mainly consists of a distinctive typeface, made by me specifically for this project. The concept is to show the great impact the scent had on perfume history, and about a longing for nature in urban life.
