A&W Canada has announced they are testing a new lidless cup in the Toronto market. Though it looks unorthodox and unlike any QSR cup, A&W’s ZeroCup requires no lid straw and is plastic-free. Instead of a plastic liner, the new cup uses a water-based coating designed by UK-based ButterflyCup. The recyclable Zero Cup is both home and industrial compostable, and accepted by Toronto’s green bin program, confirmed an A&W Canada spokesperson.
Like the Unocup, Zero Cup has top flaps that fold over one another when served. The curved top panels turn into spout-like extensions to the cup with openings for drinking and venting hot drinks like coffee.
