According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), over 7 million Americans have vision loss or blindness. Being blind or having vision lower than 20/40 can make mundane tasks such as shopping and laundry difficult.
Henkel’s laundry care brand has announced that it will add NaviLens ddTags to the front of its Mighty Pacs Original predosed detergent pod packaging on pouches and tubs. NaviLens’ technology works with users’ smartphones and looks like colorful QR codes, but they’re designed for those with low or no vision.
ddTags can be read 12 times farther than barcodes or QR codes, in 1/30th of a second within a 160-degree angle of view in all light conditions, and do not require being in focus. The NaviLens app is also designed to be accessible and easy to use for blind and low-vision users, utilizing haptic, audio, and large graphic cues to locate and read back information from ddTags.
