Could an edible coffee cup cause single-use plastic cups at coffee shops to bite the dust? Miroslav Zapryanov, founder and CEO of Cupffee, certainly hopes so.
Miroslav hated seeing the waste created by coffee shops in his hometown. Since Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is a busy city with a thriving coffee shop culture, this meant lots of single-use cups going in the trashâand unfortunately, paper cups come lined with a thin layer of polyethylene, making them much more difficult to recycle. So, as a determined college student, Miroslav decided to create a solution by baking edible cups in his home oven, an idea that would lead to Cupffee.
