Once a year, on the first of April, the pranksters and dad jokes come out in full force as this is a day that typically softens the blow if a playful, “April Fools’” follows whatever trickery might have occurred.
While the origin of this day remains a mystery, some believe it dates back to 1563 at the Council of Trent for those who couldn’t remember the start of the year moved to the first of January or Ancient Rome to signify the end of Romans dressing up in costumes. From there, it became a two-day event that involved pranks consisting of kicking people’s bums in 18th century Scotland, which also sounds like the most Scottish thing ever.
Today, it’s a celebration of seeing how well you can pull the wool over someone’s eyes and in recent years, designers have started joining in on the fun. This year, Leeds-based branding agency Robot Food played with hearts and stomachs around the world as they released awesome, realistic designs for the occasion.
