UK-based retailer Marks & Spencer has announced changes to its rice and grain packaging. The retailer says the new packaging is compatible with curbside collection and includes boxes and paper-based bags. According to Marks & Spencer, the packaging changes will reduce 5.5 million plastic packaging units annually.

Over thirty products will use the new paper-based bags, which include rice, couscous, and lentils. Four of Marks & Spencer’s Collection products will also now get sold in plastic-free boxes with a measuring lid. The paper-based bags are not entirely plastic-free; the bags have a liner along the inside to protect the product while remaining recyclable.
