I wrote an article last year about some of the most obnoxious pieces of packaging design. While I included dunderheaded clunkers like the absurdity of plastic-wrapped cucumbers and the stupidity of goat cheese packaging, I didn’t bring up the shared hatred of what was Grillo’spickle packaging. If you know the brand, you know the messy spills and complicated lid opening maneuvers from the plastic container. It wasn’t ergonomic, it wasn’t smart, and it was immensely frustrating spilling brine all over yourself when all you want is to satisfy your goddam pickle cravings.
While I doubt bacon manufacturers care about our disgust with plastic-wrapped meat, Grillo’s did actually listen to its fans. The brand recently launched its new and improved packaging system to help combat the sloppy opening mechanics.
