With rising health awareness and environmental concerns, nicotine pouches — high-frequency consumer goods — face two key challenges. Traditional single-use plastic packaging not only creates a significant environmental burden, but users often struggle to perceive their last use time and intervals, making their consumption pace more likely to become unregulated.
In response to the trend toward sustainable consumption and to support better self-management, this design introduces a new packaging concept: transforming nicotine pouch packaging from a passive container into an active management tool. The packaging uses paper materials as the primary component and integrates time tracking with usage management. A rotating lid combined with a calibrated time scale allows users to visually mark the time of last use, while individually-sealed nicotine pouches ensure hygiene, portability, and measurable intake with each use. Together, these elements convey the core value: Track your pace, stay in control.

The drawer-style outer box and rotatable inner can together establish a unified time-tracking system. At the center of the outer packaging, a large circular dial serves as the primary visual anchor, paired with a clear reading window and the “Last Used” label to form an intuitive functional entry point. The visual flow naturally follows the circular scale, reinforcing the narrative of time–interval–rhythm. The process of opening the outer box itself acts as a subtle but effective behavioral reminder. Using a “pull-to-rotate” mechanism, when the inner box is drawn out, the front dial simultaneously completes a fixed-angle clockwise rotation, turning the opening action into a tangible perception of time passing and self-awareness of usage frequency.

The main innovation lies in the design of the inner can: its top rotating lid with a calibrated time scale allows users to manually mark the time of their last use. This design transforms the “last used time” from a vague memory into clear, visible information. Meanwhile, the front highlights the core concept and recognition, while the side reinforces information hierarchy. Key parameters like nicotine strength and flavor are prominently displayed, while other specifications and compliance details are neatly presented in a consistent manner. This layout allows users to quickly grasp key information while maintaining overall visual coherence. To prevent underage access, a child-lock mechanism has been incorporated. The lid must be rotated to align with the unlock position before it can be lifted — a single pulling action alone will not open it. This structural design reduces the risk of accidental opening or ingestion by minors, enhancing both safety and the overall coherence of the concept.

Guided by the principle of “Form follows function”, the packaging adopts a minimalist approach. Generous white space, a centered circular dial, a clear time scale, and a high-contrast reading window make the product intuitive and easy to use. Each inner can features a distinct bright color block to represent a specific flavor, creating a visual contrast between a calm exterior and a vibrant interior. This layered approach balances functional clarity with strong shelf recognition. The outer packaging is made from rigid paperboard rather than plastic, which reduces single-use plastic waste and enhances recyclability, showcasing a commitment to sustainability.
