Tomorrow is Earth Day.
It’s not so much a festivity as it is a day many of us set aside to promote the protection and restoration of our planet. That includes going out and participating in beach cleanups and campaigning for political change that addresses the climate crisis, pollution, deforestation, and other planetary maladies.
Earth Day is also when we see many brands announce how they’re doing better for the environment. In a piece I wrote earlier this week, I provide an update on plastic-related pledges by companies like Nestlé, Unilever, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Mondelez, Starbucks, and McDonald’s. Unfortunately, brands are still leaning heavily toward recycling, making far less progress on creating alternatives to single-use plastic packaging. Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, the firm behind Loop, also provides insight on advancing meaningful, reusable packaging programs in QSRs and grocery stores.
