McDonald’s Releases Quarter Pounder Candle Set And It’s Not Even The Weirdest Novelty Scent Of 2020

While some engineers and scientists have worked tirelessly to duplicate the sensory experience of meat without having to slaughter and parse up an animal, McDonald’s went a different route in recreating the Quarter Pounder experience at home with a set of candles.

The set of six candles, which McDonald’s recommends burning at the same time for “maximum deliciousness,” includes a votive scented as each one of the Quarter Pounder’s ingredients - bun, ketchup, pickle, onion, cheese, and beef.

The candles come packaged as a set inside a minimally decorated white box featuring the yellow Golden Arches on the outside. Similarly, each candle sports the familiar arches with the scent labeled underneath. It is unabashedly fast-food in its aesthetic, understandably, considering this is for McDonald’s super fans that want to literally breathe the aroma of one of their signature burgers in the place they sleep at night.

Our sense of smell plays a role in identifying taste, so while smelling a meaty burger is not quite the same as actually eating, it can come close enough that we can trick our brain into thinking we have, so McDonald’s candles are as crazy an idea as it may seem at first blush.

McDonald’s Quarter Pounder candle makes an appearance on the fast-food chain’s merchandise website, but as of this writing, they list the votive set as coming soon, so you’ll have to settle for filling your home with the scent of genitalia for the time being.
