Circular shopping program Loop which was first announced earlier this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, has officially launched their US pilot program in the Mid-Atlantic region. They've also announced their first US retail partners—Kroger, the country’s largest supermarket chain, and Walgreens, one of America’s largest pharmacy chains.

Kroger’s partnership with Loop is part of a continued effort towards their “Zero Hunger | Zero Waste” initiative that addresses hunger, food, and packaging waste by 2025. They even plan to remove plastic bags from all of their stores.

The closed-loop shopping program is the brainchild of recycling processor TerraCycle, and they've partnered with major consumer products companies such as Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, PepsiCo and Nestle, as well as retailers, and shipping and logistics company UPS.

"Loop was designed from the ground-up to reinvent the way we consume by leveraging the sustainable, circular milkman model of yesterday with the convenience of e-commerce," said Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of Loop and TerraCycle, via a press release.

In addition to launching their pilot program, Loop also revealed a real estate partnership with Brookfield Properties, enabling them to offer the shopping platform to employees at Brookfield Place as well as residents of One Blue Slip at Greenpoint Landing as an amenity.

Products available at launch come from brands such as Gillette, Oral-B, Dove, AXE, Häagen-Dazs, Clorox, Colgate, Purina, and Honest. The wide range of products includes food, personal care, and home care goods.

Consumers can sign up and order products at loopstore.com, thekrogercocom/loop, or walgreens.com/loop. Orders are delivered in specially designed totes, and products come in specially designed reusable packaging. After use, customers schedule a pickup and place their empty containers into the tote which TerraCycle picks up, cleans and puts back into use.
