While you should down some types of whiskey like a shot (looking at you Fireball) most fine spirits like single malt scotch whiskey, is ordinarily sipped slowly; that way, you can savor the time, effort and craftsmanship that goes into every bottle.
Oh, and it’s freaking expensive too.
The Glenlivet has created a series of glassless single malt-based cocktails called the “Capsule Collection,” a provocative, new way of drinking scotch sure to make traditionalists leap out of their tufted chairs in shock.
Developed with Alex Kratena and Monica Berg, co-owners of renowned London bar Tayer + Elementary, the beverages found inspiration in flavors and elements of Glenlivet’s Founder’s Reserve—Citrus, Spice, and Wood. The edible beverage capsules made of seaweed have previously been served at events like the London Marathon, minus the whiskey, obviously.
The cocktail pods mark the first time that the capsule manufacturer NOTPLA has worked with a spirits brand.
“When The Glenlivet approached us to create single malt whiskey cocktails, we knew it was going to be an exciting partnership," said Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of NOTPLA via press release. "At NOTPLA, we want to create original solutions for how to serve and consume drinks, and The Glenlivet is a brand that is looking to do just the same."
For Glenlivet’s part, the scotch maker wanted to spark reactions by ignoring or reinventing conventions, including how single malt is consumed, as part of their “Original by Tradition” campaign.
“As a brand that celebrates originality, we are always looking to break the conventions that have determined how single malt Scotch has historically been enjoyed," said Miriam Eceolaza, director of The Glenlivet, in the same press release. "The Glenlivet Capsule Collection does exactly that, and we’re excited to see how people react when they try our glassless cocktails. Our founder, George Smith, always went against the grain, bucking tradition and doing things differently. The Glenlivet Capsule Collection continues his pioneering spirit today."
The Glenlivet Capsule Collection is available throughout London’s Cocktail Week, which runs through October 13th at Tayer + Elementary, Old Street, London.
