Algeria, a North African country, is a major date producer, and its prized Deglet Nour variety is especially associated with the country’s Saharan oases. DesignRepublic celebrates those roots through Biotamra’s illustrated packaging, where stylized date palms and geometric borders look to the decorative language of North African art for inspiration.
Playful hand-drawn lettering and little illustrated dates tie it all together under the idea of “Tasty Tales from the Sahara.” Some of my favorite designs use illustration to tell a story, especially in the sweets space, where cultural references and imaginative little worlds bring a wonderful sense of whimsy to the packaging.
