Biologica Turns Wellness Into a Modern Classic

Published

Biologica packaging by Mythology reframes supplements through classical symbolism rather than a clinical look.

Sculptural relief figures reference Greco-Roman statuary, presenting the female body as monumental and composed. The typography is restrained and architectural, letting proportion and spacing carry authority. Saturated greens, reds, and deep blues signal botanical potency and lifecycle stages. In a category dominated by sterile minimalism, Biologica opts for something a little more lively.

Jae Won Kim, a designer at Mythology, shares more about the design process below.

What was the client’s brief for the project?

The Biologica team came to us to help bring their new product line to life—from naming and visual identity through packaging and art direction. At its core, they wanted a brand that could honor rigorous science while still feeling beautiful, intuitive, and genuinely desirable to live with day-to-day. It needed to feel credible and intelligent, but also human and emotionally resonant for women moving through different hormonal stages.

What was the most challenging part of the design process?

The biggest challenge was balance. We wanted the brand to feel special and elevated, but also grounded in knowledge, wisdom, and strength. In the supplement space, credibility often comes at the cost of inspiration—everything feels overly technical or hard to understand. With Biologica, we were designing something that isn’t just taken, but owned. Something that fits naturally into someone’s lifestyle and becomes part of how they understand their own body. Finding that sweet spot between science and emotion took real care.

How did you execute the brief and what were some of the strategic design elements you built into the brand?

We focused on creating meaning at every touchpoint. The bas-relief figures on each tin represent women at different hormonal stages — honoring each phase with beauty and dignity. Color plays a huge role, too, heightening a sense of taste and making the product feel delicious before it’s even opened. And typographically, we paired classic and contemporary styles to reflect Biologica’s core idea: time-tested wisdom meeting modern science. Every element was designed to feel intentional, collectible, and quietly powerful.

CASE STUDY

Biologica – a brand redefining how women see and experience hormonal wellness. Founded by Joey Zwillinger, co-founder and former CEO of Allbirds, and his wife Elizabeth Zwillinger, a former attorney and mother of three, Biologica brings design-driven thinking to the world of supplements, combining clinical precision with emotional and visual storytelling (embargoed until December 9th at 9am).

Guided by an elevated, moody color palette, Biologica celebrates women’s intelligence, taste, and individuality through design that feels international and artful. Mirasol Sison, 3D artist at Limitless Render and Bryson Lee, designer & illustrator at Mythology, worked collaboratively to bring the idea to life. Lee states the illustrations,

“…draw inspiration from Greco-Roman relief sculptures of the Classical period. The botanical ingredients used in Biologica’s products also shaped the illustration compositions. Weaving in natural elements & fruits such as pomegranate, saffron, and chasteberry to interact harmoniously with each figure to create a unique design for each life stage.”
Working on bringing the illustrations to a tactile level, Sison describes how,

“My goal was to take the graceful energy of the illustrations and make it feel alive and tangible on the packaging. To better visualize the sculpture, I even re-enacted some of the illustrated poses in my own room, studying how curves and posture could translate into the 3D form. That exercise helped me ensure the final sculpture carried both authenticity and femininity, while still aligning with the original 2D artwork.”

More akin to a luxury object than a utilitarian pill bottle, each recyclable tin is meant to be displayed, not hidden away. Featuring a sculptural bas-relief illustration, the design captures a woman’s life stage through symbolic botanical and allegorical imagery:

  • Primary – Orchid, for fertility and beauty
  • Midlife – Peony, for health and healing
  • Post Menopause – Sunflower, for wisdom and energy

The result is packaging that marries form and feeling — where texture, symbolism, and storytelling mirror the biological and emotional evolution of womanhood.

Just as Allbirds reshaped the material culture of footwear, Biologica is poised to redefine women’s wellness by merging art, science, and sustainability into something timeless, intelligent, and transformative.
