Sustainable packaging startup Notpla has partnered with UK wholesale giant Bidfood Catering Supplies to help make take-out packaging more sustainable, allowing for the distribution of containers to thousands of food service customers across the UK.
The new food boxes are designed with a seaweed and plant extract coating and can degrade in just 29 days. Seaweed has become a darling of the sustainable packaging set as a single-use plastic alternative, and it shows promise as a renewable resource due to its fast-growing nature and ability to help stop ocean acidification while absorbing carbon.
