Nom Nom’s Branding is So Sophisticated, You’d Be Forgiven for Not Realizing It’s Dog Food

Any lover of the camp classic Showgirls has at least thought about what it might take to eat dog food. In one of its best scenes, the movie’s titular rival Vegas dancers drink glasses of Cristal at Spago while bonding over a childhood appreciation for Doggy Chow. The scene is famously shocking on first watch— who on earth would just eat dog food for the hell of it?

I wonder if Nom Nom and The Creative Pack had this iconic exchange in mind when they were collaborating on this extremely sneaky packaging for the former’s frozen dog food line. The look of their products is super similar to pouches we’ve seen for high-end instant food, each offering sounds perfectly in line with something a human might want to eat, and there’s no obvious canine imagery to be found.

Outside of the blink-and-you’ll-miss-them dog bone icons and tiny “frozen dog food” description at the bottom, the only immediate giveaways for the true nature of this food are the display photos’ kibble-esque texture and the silver ring around them. Otherwise, the stylish sans serif, vibrant bichrome palettes, and artful symmetry of the design make it extraordinarily easy to imagine someone stumbling upon a pack of these in the freezer and popping it in a microwave without thinking twice. Not so easy to judge someone for eating Doggy Chow anymore, huh?
