Marissa Zappas’ Charming New Perfume Bottles Pay Homage to the Spirit of Classic French Houses

Published

Niche perfume has exploded in popularity over the past few years, and New York perfumer Marissa Zappas has been unmistakably at the wave’s crest. While she started as more of an underground figure known for her collaborations with the city’s poets, writers, and artists, word of mouth has been extremely kind to Zappas. Thanks to a steady stream of raves all over social media, she’s gone from cult status to something of a household name in the perfume world.

Anyone following Zappas will know she’s been quietly working on a redesign for the past several months, and she finally unleashed her gorgeous, cohesive new line this week. The perfumer’s style has always veered old school, and her deep respect for tradition is immediately discernible when looking at the scents’ new designs from Gordon Landenberger and Mira Moore. With their scalloped glass, charming black ribbons, and flat bases, they bring to mind classic bottles by Annick Goutal and Guerlain, all while feeling perfectly aligned with Zappas’ unique charms and strengths. The labels continue to evoke old-fashioned French houses with immaculate script typography, and Anna Bane’s sweet illustrations help each perfume differentiate itself with a sneak preview of what to expect from the juice inside.
