When you think “hillbilly wine,” what comes to mind? There are tons of directions that could go, of course, but it’s hard to avoid the image of a very impressive and ambitious, but probably fairly gnarly method of distilling a real strong, prohibition-style hooch.
Color me surprised when I saw Denomination’s simultaneously understated yet eye-catching design for the Australian wine brand Hillbilly. The studio took a clever modern art approach to the brief, turning the brand’s titular hills (Adelaide, to be specific) into Cy Twombly-esque squiggles that pop in the same Kelly green as the cork seal. While I’m absolutely still waiting to see a cool take on backroad basement booze, this fun play on words will do for now.
