Lunchables Takes Significant Leap In Snack Tech With Crispy 60-Second Grilled Cheese Sandwich

For 35 years, Lunchables has fed legions of hungry children with prepackaged assortments of crackers, cheese, deli meats, sweets, and other items popular with kids. Until now, the Lunchables brand has mostly been confined to coolers, but its latest take on mealtime is also its first foray into the freezer section, making a classic easier than ever.

Grilled Cheesies from Lunchables are frozen grilled cheese sandwiches that the Kraft Heinz brand promises to turn into a crispy, gooey, and hot sandwich in a minute, thanks to something it calls “360Crisp” technology. The 360Crisp pouch crisps the outside of the bread while heating the Kraft Singles cheese and, in the case of the Pepperoni Cheesie, pieces of Lunchables pepperoni.

Featuring packaging designed by JKR that furthers the agency's refresh of the brand last year, the boxes show a sandwich pulled apart by two groups of miniature people on the front. The signature features of classic grilled cheese, like the crispy surface of the bread and the melty pull of the American cheese, are on full display thanks to excellent food photography.

“The launch of 360Crisp is a clear proof point in our mission to reinvent the frozen category by providing high-quality, delicious, and convenient solutions for snack-time and beyond,” Alan Kleinerman, VP head of disruption at Kraft Heinz, said in a press release. “At Kraft Heinz, we’re sitting at the intersection of food and technology—building consumer-first innovations that revolutionize the meal table and, importantly, drive real value for families around the world. 360Crisp is just the beginning.”

Lunchables Grilled Cheesies are available in original and pepperoni, with a suggested price of $4.99 per two-sandwich box.
