Magpie Studio's Aero Refresh Adds A Fresh Coat Of High-Tech Paint

Aero is a firm that specializes in sustainable paint and coating material technology for applications like automotive, aerospace, and the military. Working with manufacturers, Aero delivers paint and materials that, unlike traditional paint, do not release microplastics, do not emit CO2 or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and do not require water usage. Additionally, Aero paints are lighter, resulting in less fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Recently, Aero solicited the services of UK-based Magpie Studio to refresh its brand identity. Magpie’s rebranding takes cues from Aero’s environmental advantages while adding new graphic elements inspired by science, technology, and data.

Magpie refined the logo, updating the typography to give it a more high-tech look while retaining the wind tunnel-like swoop over the text. A bright lime green color—a nod to industrial safety colors and the environment—punctuates the black-and-white palette, and icons reminiscent of data presentations are included throughout the new branding, communicating technical details quickly and efficiently while lending the Aero brand a technical character. Some graphics, like molecule fragments, sprockets, a rainy cloud, and an aperture, replace letters on items—physical things like tote bags, but also social media posts online.

An amorphous text mesh also gets used throughout in static and animated forms. As a backdrop, the text mesh is an elegant backdrop that simulates a textured surface that recalls evening news graphics or a greyer version of the Matrix as seen on the computer screen. In animations, the Aero text mesh bends and changes into rotating and moving shapes like a paint drop or sphere.

A sustainable alternative to paint is an attractive selling proposition, but, to get manufacturers’ attention and convey their unique qualities, Aero’s refresh adds visual touches inspired by nature, science, and technology with cutting-edge sophistication.
