Happy Hour's Tequila Seltzers Make For A Colorful Companion

What if we took “happy hour” more literally instead of just a bar promotion?

Picture a slice of the day devoted to seizing joy, creating special moments with friends, or enjoying a sunset. Adding a little tequila into the mix can make those time-outs from the world's stressors even better. But combining ingredients, slicing fruit, and mixing them into cocktails can hinder your allotted "me" time.

The spirit of having a happy hour whenever you want is behind the RTD tequila seltzer brand Happy Hour. Happy Hour seltzers get made from real tequila and fruit juice and have just 99 calories, making imbibing a refreshing sparkling cocktail as easy as pulling a tab.

Happy Hour’s branding and design evoke a casual retreat, like a day at the park hanging with friends. The center of the cans features fruit illustrations, or in the case of the margarita flavor, a large coupe filled with the classic cocktail. The typography even gets a little groovy, adding fun to Happy Hour’s visual identity.

“When thinking about our definition of 'happy hour,' we often thought about sunsets, no rules, effortless moments with friends, uncomplicated fun,” says Charley Borquez, creative head at Happy Hour. “We believe there should be no limit to a ‘happy hour.’ Every hour deserves to be happy! The positivity of these feelings influenced our font choices. We made our logo with a fun, smooth, and casual font. The softness tends to make the product feel friendly and inviting."

They also found inspiration in Pop Art and monochromatic art, using Andy Warhol's flower paintings as a color compass. "We created our can artwork by manipulating images that embodied our flavors in Halftone patterns. By doing this, we could use two different hues for each can, in addition to our white logo that pops against bright colors.”

According to Borquez, color plays a meaningful role in the visual identity of Happy Hour.

“Going into the project, we knew that while color triggers feelings and emotions, it also impacts purchasing decisions and justly played a large part in building our unique identity,” Charley explains. “When choosing our colors, there were a few important steps. First, ensure they represent the product, specifically our flavors. Second, creating bold flavor profiles that can live in a variety pack or alone, that way, the cans stand out from our competitors. Third, when thinking about the consumer, making the cans something you would want to be photographed holding, creating a product that adds to its environment. And lastly, maintaining consistency across products means our design layout can get mimicked for all flavors.”

One of the advantages of RTD cocktails is the ability to have a prepared drink anytime without a bartender or having to mix ingredients at home and getting zesting knuckle. Happy Hour takes that convenience, making tequila cocktails available anytime.

Now, when happy hour strikes—whenever that is—you can have tequila seltzers on hand.
