Meet Uvie, the Plastic-Free Sunscreen Bar Concept

With summer just around the corner, there's the promise of warmer, longer days on the horizon. Nothing quite beats the backyard barbeques, poolside parties, or warm nights. Yet, while there are many alluring aspects to the season, there are also harmful elements.

While helpful in avoiding harmful UV rays, sunscreen is an emerging concern because of its detrimental environmental impact. Not only do some of the ingredients contain toxic chemicals, but the packaging is almost always made of plastic.

To combat the environmental impact, Lyon & Lyon created a concept dubbed "Uvie." The conceptual brand makes SPF fun and sustainable through latherable SPF soap bars, plus the plant and mineral-based sunscreen product is packaged free of plastic in recyclable cardboard.

The brand's packaging system is bright and cheery, ideal for a product that inspires you to enjoy more sunshine. Additionally, the bold typography and sweet illustrations create a courageous yet approachable system.

While I'm not sure about the science or efficacy behind SPF bars (at least of the homemade variety), I know that with Uvie, summer can continue to be a season worth celebrating. So get on that, Lush.
