Pangaia Breaks Into the Food Biz With Carbon-Neutral Energy Bar

Pangaia isn’t just some run-of-the-mill DTC clothing brand—they consider themselves a materials science company that wants to save the world. Even when you break down their name into its core parts, “pan” is all-inclusive and considers everyone regardless of race or religion, while “Gaia,” in Greek mythology, is Mother Earth. And if you binged Captain Planet as a child, then congratulations, you know what’s up.
Now, the innovative brand is looking to expand its brand portfolio by branching out into the world of food with Pangaia Health. The first offering will be in the form of the Pangaia Super Super Bar, a souped-up science-y energy bar intended to have minimal impact on the planet. The plant-based and certified carbon-neutral bar currently comes in one flavor—prickly pear and goji berry—and comes loaded with superfoods and fiber in addition to being gluten-free.
The good-for-you bar is also good for the planet concerning its packaging. Designed by the in-house team at Pangia, the bars come in a sleek, silver wrapper made from compostable TIPA. Seven colored circles take up the left side of the wrapper, while the rest of the affair keeps it minimal and lists the ingredients. Thematically, it brings some 60s and 70s future vibes, the kind of energy bar Buzz Aldrin would hock during the commercial break for Saturday morning cartoons. The outer box also brings the retro-silver motif along for the ride and is recyclable, naturally.
"Pangaia is thrilled to expand into the category of superfoods and continue its mission of building a healthy planet," said Ira Laufer, CEO of Pangaia HEALTH, in a press release. "We are driven by a vision of 'hi-tech naturalism' across our products. We look to bring the brilliance of nature complimented with today's food science to create solutions that promote health—for us and our planet. As Pangaia launches into this new category, we are focused on eliminating many of the most damaging aspects of the food industry to help our community harness the abundance of nature and convert it into tangible and effective wellness solutions."
Of course, they’re not the only capital-P clothing manufacturer to branch out into the world of food. Patagonia got back into the beer game back in 2016 but has been selling food under Patagonia Provisions for even longer. We’re still waiting on LL Bean-branded Whoopie Pies, but we’re not holding our breath.
The Pangaia Super Super Bar is available starting March 24th—for $35, you’ll get a box of seven bars only at www.pangaia.com
