Ful Revival Is the Blue, 'Climate-Positive' Drink Made With Spirulina

Functional beverages and better-for-you sodas are gaining popularity and are certainly nothing new. But what if there was a healthy, low-calorie alternative that was also climate-positive and reduced CO2 with every sip?

Ful Revival tonic is a new drink made with microalgae spirulina extract loaded with nutrients like calcium, vitamins B1 and B2, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Its beautiful aqua blue hue isn’t due to artificial coloring; Ful Revival’s ready-for-the-gram color is thanks to phycocyanin, a protein pigment with purported anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that increases red blood cell production.

According to Ful, they went with glass bottles due to high recyclability rates in Western Europe. According to Close the Glass Loop, a multi-organizational group whose aim is to increase glass recyclability, Europe’s average recycling rate reached 78% in 2019, a record number.

Ful Revival is available in three flavors, Lime & Mint, Lemon & Ginger, and White Peach. The glass used is frosted in a similar blue, and the label is also an aqua shade. The Ful wordmark is tall and round, with details reminiscent of microorganisms like Ful’s signature ingredient. The dots, swirls, and other forms in the logos are inspired by each flavor, with ingredients represented by corresponding colors.

Instead of being carbon neutral, Ful has added yet another green phrase, calling itself “climate positive.” Ful reasons that since spirulina absorbs CO2 and turns it into oxygen and nutrients, the company is “CO2 recycling,” capturing greenhouse gases that would have been emitted by the production of other beverages like beer.

In addition to CO2 recycling, Ful’s spirulina does not compete for arable land, is grown without pesticides or fertilizers, and 85% of the freshwater used gets recycled in subsequent cultivations.

Revival tonics are available directly from Ful’s website, shipping to Europe, the UK, and the US.
