You'll Be Looking Like A Snack With the Balenciaga and Lay’s Chip Bag

Would you pay $1800 to carry a Balenciaga branded Lay’s bag?

At its Summer 2023 "Mud Show" presentation, luxury brand Balenciaga gave a whole new meaning to "looking like a snack." At the romp through the pig slop, the brand released its collaboration with Lay's. The models carried the $1,800 bags made from leather printed with packaging-inspired graphics as accessories as they trekked down the muddy catwalk.

It's rumored that the inspiration for the bag occurred when Balenciaga's creative director Demna Gvasalia, had a somewhat viral fashion moment after being spotted toting an actual Lay's bag at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts graduate in June of this year.

Whether or not it was an accident, packaging design was, is, and always will be a defining moment of one's personality. Similarly, whether or not you spend $1800 or $3.99 on a Lay's bag says a lot about you too.

Packaging as an accessory isn't anything new. It's not rare for brands to release merchandise. We've seen merchandise from Oscar Mayer, Chokis, and Coca-Cola. When brands create a piece of fashion, it becomes a wearable extension for consumers to showcase their love for these beloved brands.

The Lay's x Balenciaga Potato Chip Bag Clutch is said to be released in tandem with the brand's Summer 2023 "The Mud Show" collection later this year.
