KFC Launches Plant-Based Beyond Fried Chicken, and It’s Bound To Be Finger-Lickin' Good

There's nothing quite like becoming vegan and realizing that fast food joints are following suit. Well, not entirely, but having at least one plant-based item on the menu is a big deal for plant-based and vegetarian eaters (also, shout-out to the Taco Bell veg-head menu).
Two years ago, KFC started developing their special vegan fried chicken; and now, on January 20th, 2022, the chicken chain will release Beyond Fried Chicken, seasoned with the same 11 secret herbs and spices you know and love.
The recipe was developed with KFC for the restaurant's exclusive, proprietary use, so, just like the chain's ordinary fried chicken, you won't be able to find this plant-based treat anywhere else. In addition, Beyond Fried Chicken utilizes "whole muscle" technology to imitate whole-muscle cuts of meat better, meaning this product will both taste and look like real chicken.
KFC, however, isn't the first fast-food restaurant to break into the plant-based market. Back in 2019, Burger King released its infamous Impossible Burger that mimics the texture and taste of beef, much like KFC's plant-based chicken.
And while we can't guarantee what packaging will look like, press assets showcase a green version of the infamous KFC bucket, a perfect visual statement that taps into the idea that consuming less meat is helpful to the environment and the more pressing issue of climate change.
Regardless, there's no doubt that this plant-based chicken will be just as finger-lickin' good as the original. Just, uh, send us some samples already, OK, Colonel Sanders?
