My Face Mask Has A First Name, And It’s O-S-C-A-R

Many people resolve to take better care of themselves every new year. Sometimes that means losing weight, exercising, going dry for January, or simply devoting more time for wellness.

Deli meat brand Oscar Mayer doesn’t come to mind immediately when one thinks of self-care. Still, the hot dog maker wants to make it easier to meet wellness goals while having fun with limited edition “bologna” face masks.

Made in partnership with Korean beauty brand Seoul Mamas, the hydrogel masks are meant to rejuvenate the skin, improve hydration, moisture retention, offer anti-inflammatory benefits, and provide protection for the ol’ epidermis. The new offering looks like the “bologna masks” kids fashion themselves by biting eye and mouth holes into their slice of deli meat. The packaging is in line with the recent brand refresh by BrandOpus, and the USDA inspected seal gets replaced with a cheeky parody from the “Department of Facial Hydration.” A fun graphic of someone wearing the facemask is on the front of the label, and it wouldn’t be Oscar Mayer without the signature wiener mobile.

“Oscar Mayer has a legacy bringing levity to things that have gotten too serious, and beauty is a ripe territory to playfully subvert,” said Lindsey Ressler, senior marketing analyst for Oscar Mayer, via press release. “Inspired by those who used to playfully make masks out of their bologna as kids, this product was born as a modern-day way to spark smiles for fans of Oscar Mayer and beauty enthusiasts alike. This is the latest in our brand movement to create work that feels more like pop-art and less like traditional commercial advertising—inspired by the old, modernized for today.”

Oscar Mayer face masks are available for $5 from Amazon.com while supplies last.
