New Snack Line Chuza Inspired By Monterrey, Mexico

by Rudy Sanchez on 09/08/2021 | 2 Minute Read

The snacks we munch on as children often leave an indelible mark on our memory. Just the mere thought of a favorite treat elicits fond memories and can transport us back, if even temporarily, to our childhood.

Danny Schwarz’s snack brand Chuza finds inspiration in the munchies he ate growing up in Monterrey, Mexico. The Chuza line of treats includes dried fruits like strawberry, pineapple, apricot, mango, and cranberry generously dusted with a salty, spicy, citrusy coating that results in a cacophony of bold flavor contrasts.

Chuza’s Mexican roots also shine in the packaging, designed with Parámetro Studio. Mexico’s deep architectural pedigree serves as inspiration for branding and packaging. Shapes derived from Mayan pyramids, bold colors, and minimal approach trace back to renowned Mexican architect Luis Barragán. An icon featuring an owl that reads “Spices from Mexico with love” is reminiscent of import stamps, lending Chuza a more international feel. The Chuza wordmark also makes use of a font that exudes some of the same energy as hand-painted shop signs found all over the Latin American country.

“The inspiration for Chuza comes from my upbringing in Monterrey, Mexico,” said Danny. “From the vibrant packaging to the delicious Mexican spices, I’m beyond excited to share our flavors, culture, and flair with the world.”
