August is the Period Care Brand Focused On Sustainability, Inclusion, and Giving Power To Periods

Having a uterus is awesome; however, there are a few minor inconveniences, as with all good things. Things like being told what to do with our bodies (looking at you, Texas), the pay gap, and, most notably, periods. But, what if those with a uterus could reclaim the power of their periods and make them less of an inconvenience and more of a way to understand themselves and their bodies.

August is a brand that stands for anyone who menstruates—despite gender, race, beliefs, abilities, or socioeconomic backgrounds.

Their success can partially be attributed to their branding and visual identity system reflected through their packaging. It proves that the menstrual care brand preaches their beliefs and practices them too.

August’s packaging is bold, punchy, bright, and intentionally the opposite of every other period brand all designed in-house. The product’s color palette avoids the classic pinks and purples and, instead, allows tones such as brown, yellow, and red to shine through. And that oversized, bold, loud typography? Yeah, that’s a metaphor about how we’re all supposed to live our lives: unapologetically.

And, not only are their products beautiful, August is a brand that’s focused on sourcing materials from ethical manufacturers. Each of the tampons is made from 100% organic cotton and is fully biodegradable with recyclable applicators. The manufacturers August use are based in Germany, and they made an official commitment to the UK 2015 Modern Slavery Act. Moreover, the packaging that the tampons get tucked inside is made from recyclable materials and is therefore fully recyclable. August is a brand that practices what they preach over and over again.

The branding system avoids gendered tropes and euphemisms; it’s loud, proud, and independent, just as they want their customers to be and feel.
