Student Week: Herkimer RTD Coffee

Cold brew coffee is all the rage, and rightfully so, it's chock full of caffeine and can be flavored to your liking. Designer Tom Van Deusen created conceptual packaging for a small high-end roaster and coffee shop in Seatle that showcases the brand's variety of cold brews. Each can features photography of the bean fields where the coffee originates from in an understated yet thoroughly appreciated way. The color palette is muted while still full of personality. Tom Van Deusen proves that packaging designs can feature strong typography and photography without being too overwhelming. A job well done.

Herkimer, a small high-end roaster and coffee shop in Seattle with three locations and 24 employees, is looking to expand its product offerings to a ready-to-drink canned coffee to be sold in stores. Herkimer's website and blog feature extensive photography of the countries of origin for their coffee. Their roasters visit these locations to taste their coffees, tour the farms and immerse themselves in the culture. My design utilizes photography of the bean fields from which their coffee is sourced, and utilizes the negative space of the Herkimer logo, allowing the photography to show through.
