Student Week: Fromm Family Pet Food

As someone who currently feeds my dog Fromm, I've always wondered why the bag was so, well, dark. The pet food brand has been around since the early 1900s and is known for its gourmet pet foods.
California State University student Megan Ng redesigned the pet food packaging for her Intro to Graphic Design class in a colorful way that stays true to the brand's premium characteristics. While implementing fun colors, Megan was sure to keep the overall design sleek through oversized illustrations and simplistic black typography.
Just because a brand is a premium doesn't mean that it can't also be playful, and Megan's packaging proves just that.
Fromm Family Pet Food is an existing gourmet pet food company that is dedicated to using real ingredients free from artificial preservatives. My redesign concept emphasizes the natural ingredients found in the formula recipes while maintaining a high-end look. I drew inspiration from early 1900s style illustrations from the Arts and Crafts movement, which is also around the time of the creation of the company. The illustrations in combination with friendly typography create a homey feeling. The original packaging could easily be mistaken for human food, so the redesign made clarity a priority by including large animal icons that are hard to miss.
