Ratafia Mas Creus

Ratafia Mas Creus is a standard and often home-distilled liquor from Catalunya. While each region has its family recipe, the one main commonality in the drink across the areas is that it's unique. CIA BCN designed the bottle with an elegant artisan nature in mind. Implementing the handwritten calligraphy style across the label adds a touch of craftsmanship while still maintaining a sleek and sophisticated perception.

Packaging Design for Ratafia Mas Creus, a typical and often home-distilled liquor from Catalunya. The crafty spirituous beverage is made with aromatic herbs, green almonds and pre-distilled spirits, then fermented in the open under the sun for 40 days.

Every region and each distiller has their own secret recipe, passed on from generation to generation. Reflecting the uniqueness of the product, its artisan elaboration and its recent come-back (an ancient recipe reinvented) we leaned on another aged skill that is celebrating its return: Handwritten Calligraphy, more specifically Blackletters which were written in those times when monkhood was distilling spirits like Ratafia and writing Gothic letters.

We cooperated with Claudio Gill (Calligrapher) to develop this unique Handwritten Masterpiece for Mas Creus Special thanks to: Claudio Gill (Calligrapher) and Jordi Bernabé (Photography)
