According to pollster Ipsos, two-thirds of Americans believe that life exists beyond our planet, while 57% reckon that intelligent beings and civilizations are possible on other planets. The possibility of having celestial neighbors and that they even bothered to visit our blue orb has captivated and enthralled millions of people. Though there has been zero definitive evidence of non-Earling space travelers, that hasn’t abated the notion of intelligent life being somewhere out there.

If anyone would have the receipts when it comes to aliens, surely it would be Uncle Sam. Surveys by Gallop find that two-thirds of Americans believe the government knows more about E.T. than its told the public. And now, thanks to a provision in an appropriations bill last year, the secretary of defense and director of national intelligence have been directed to prepare and release an unclassified report on what the government knows about UFOs. That report is due at the end of this month, and Oreo is preparing for another visit by laying out a sweet spread of milk and cookies with input from fans on social media.

The latest promotional campaign also includes a specially designed bag of Oreo cookies called The Offering. The sci-fi-inspired packaging features a black background and an Oreo cookie composed of blue-colored shining glyphs, with the glow and graphic elements concentrated in the center. Copy on the bag instructs consumers to place an Oreo under darkened skies, a sort of interplanetary peace offering. The dark background and blue glyphs are reminiscent of fictional alien technology often depicted in media.

With the government’s report due later this month, the discussion surrounding possible extraterrestrial, intelligent life has intensified. When asked last month about life beyond earth and video of aircraft maneuvering unlike any human craft, former president Obama on a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden added fuel to the fiery debate opening the door to having knowledge he couldn’t share on-air regarding the unexplained aircraft and alien beings. President Biden was less forthcoming when asked about Mr. Obama’s comments, making it clear we won’t get an early preview of the report’s findings from the White House.
