To The Moon With Galaxy Dust Rum

Published

Galaxy Dust Rum is from Firebox, the shop for the unusual. The Wine and Spirit Trade Association named rum the “Drink of Lockdown,” so the team wanted to do what they do best and take something well-loved and put their own extremely unique twist on it. Enter Galaxy Dust Rum, the alcoholic beverage that tastes like raspberry, which is said to be the taste of our galaxy, believe it or not. “Galaxy Dust” sits boldly on the front of the purple label that perfectly compliments the holographic swirl of the purple liquid within the bottle. To say that this packaging is whimsical would be a complete understatement.

According to scientific research, our solar system smells like raspberries and tastes like rum. In 2009 astronomers identified a chemical called ethyl formate at the center of the Milky Way. That chemical is responsible for the flavour of raspberries and also happens to smell like rum.

This sparked the idea to capture and distill the spirit of the galaxy and create an ode to the incredible discovery made by those astronomers. Whilst not all of us have the budget to jump on a rocket and explore the galaxy with the likes of Elon Musk, we felt there was no reason we couldn’t bring the galaxy to you in sensory form.

Encased in a German engineered bottle that features a square profile softened by smoothed lines, allowing the unique shimmering liquid to be clearly displayed. We used a tactile, laid texture label and kept the colours intentionally pared back, instead focusing on the product name and the bottle’s other-worldly content to take centre stage in terms of aesthetics. Adding holographic foiling detail to the label was done to reflect the tonal ethereal swirl of the galaxy in every pour.
