I didnât truly realize that my mom is no chef until the day I moved out. Donât worry; sheâs aware and fully admits that cooking is not her forte. Sheâs convinced that her taste buds donât work properly because sheâs the kind of person who doesnât understand how people, particularly my dad, brother, and I, enjoy food and flavors at the level we do. Because of this, we grew up in a household with a spice drawer lacking in flavors other than âsaltâ and âexpired nutmeg.â
If thereâs one thing my mom did get right in not supplying the spices, itâs the fact that the packaging is grossly un-environmental, and the contents almost always lose their flavors before you can finish the container. That and theyâre outrageously overpriced.
