The Duality Of Mexican Culture Is Represented Through Raicilla Perra Suerte's Packaging

Perra Suerte, 100% Agave Maximiliana, focuses its branding and identity, created by Cocoa Brands, on Mexican culture's dichotomy. The label found on the beautifully textured bottle is minimalist and simple, except for the seemingly random scribble across the name. It perfectly taps into the balancing of culture and is overwhelmingly unexpected in the best way possible. Not to mention, the bottle's texture is simply stunning. Truly a bottle design well done.

Mexican culture is one of duality. And sometimes, in that ambivalence, we use the same word to describe two opposite ideas. Similarly, the expression “¡perra suerte!” is both a way of vocalizing frustration in the face of misfortune, and and also an envious response towards somebody else’s good luck, as in: “¡Qué perra suerte tiene!” (How darn lucky she/he is!). Thus, Perra Suerte synthesizes this deep contrasts that make the backbone of our idiosyncrasy.

Raicilla is a lesser known agave distillate from Jalisco, the same state where tequila is produced. The fizzy, pungent sensation it leaves on the tongue and the eventual smoother after taste also play this same game of stark contrasts. In turn, the bottle is richly ornamented with an abstract resemblance of an agave piña while the label is clean, minimal, almost spotless if it were not for the unexpected scribble over the logotype, which, interestingly enough, was also the product of a random accident, trying to place the Master Raicillero’s signature on it. This packaging was awarded Double Gold in the Design Category at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2021.
