Talsam Smart Jewelry Has Even Smarter Packaging

In a world of smart phones, tablets, and self-driving cars, the only thing missing besides hover boards was smart jewelry. We've all seen the rise of wearable technology in the form of watches. But for those looking to feel connected to loved ones while still maintaining an elegant look, Talsam provides smart jewelry. In order to ensure the packaging and branding were as elegant and sleek as the technology within the box, Talsam collaborated with Leadoff Studio.
Customer experience was the first priority as Leadoff created a packaging design that could deliver the product, then be used continually as a jewelry box and tray for years to come.
In the design process, Talsam’s packaging was considered a stand-alone product that should add value to the user experience beyond its initial unboxing. To create a long lasting design, Leadoff Studio drew inspiration from how people typically store, maintain, and accessorize their jewelry.
The packaging, known as the Talsam Jewelry Box, features a drawer that can be used for the charm’s jewelry and tech accessories, as well as other jewelry pieces. An indented top surface creates a tray where the charm can be charged or other rings, necklaces, and bracelets can be kept. The top facet allows anything that is placed on it to slide in towards the center.
Soft and textured papers on the exterior, as well as flocked velvety paper lining the interior gives the packaging a comforting feel. Ribbons are used for the drawer pull to create memorable and intentionally detailed touch points. Leadoff Studio considered it critical to elevate the tactile appeal of the design to ensure that it felt like a memorable luxury item the Charm's users would remember and grow to love.
The box is made of rigid board wrapped in textured papers. This jewelry box construction creates a solid structure that protects the contents and will not easily break. It is fully recyclable at the eventual end of life, however. Keeping in mind sustainability, the boxes get shipped in a custom branded DTC shipper that is fully recyclable as well.
At the heart of the product and packaging experience is the ability to give the Talsam Charm to a loved one. Before giving the gift, you are able to digitally connect to the charm and record a welcome message with the unique QR code provided on each sleeve. The recipient is prompted to view the message the first time they connect their charm to the Talsam app.
You also have the option to remove the graphic sleeve entirely before gifting the elegant drawer-style box to the recipient, making the gifting experience feel more like that of luxurious jewelry than a technology product.
