McDonald's Announces Chicken-Inspired Collab With Tay Keith

Fast-food chicken sandwiches have been around for decades, and every major chain seems to have at least one always on offer. But for burger bulwarks like Burger King, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s, the chicken sammy isn’t the star. Even fried chicken chains treated the entree item as an afterthought, with Chik-fil-A sitting comfortably as the undisputed chicken sandwich champion.
Then Popeyes struck crispy, succulent gold with their 2019 sandwich. The response even caught the brand sleeping, going so viral it inspired sandwich scalpers, robbery, and quick sell-outs across the country. According to Google search trends data, consumer interest remains higher now than before Popeyes’ surprise hit.
That interest has not gone unnoticed by other, larger fast-food chains, and McDonald’s is now the latest brand to announce a new chicken item, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich goes live this Friday in three varieties-Crispy, Spicy, and Deluxe. Obviously, there are pickles, a buttered potato roll, and a spicy pepper sauce.
As part of the rollout, the clown king of QSR is dropping a limited edition line of merchandise inspired by the new sandwiches a day before its official release. The collection includes a never-before-heard track by producer Tay Keith on 7in vinyl, a hoodie featuring a Keith-created waveform along the sleeve, and the file name on the chest. Fans can also get early access to the trio of new crispy chicken sandwiches.
Oh, and that chicken drop? It will only set you back $5 if you’re lucky enough to snag one.
"We know fans can't wait for our new Crispy Chicken Sandwich to hit restaurants, so we're celebrating them and this moment with a drop like no other," said VP of U.S. Communications, David Tovar, in a press release. "We're excited to give fans early access to this sandwich and exclusive swag they can't get anywhere else to memorialize this great addition to our menu."
The collection is available starting February 18th, noon EST at CHKNDrop.com.
