Celebrate The New Year The Tet Lòng Vòng Way

Creatively implementing just the right number of traditional Lunar New Year elements and colors in the box designs, ECH Creative Agency worked on a gift box set called Tet Lòng Vòng.

Featuring eight assortments of nuts in plastic jars—each paired up and tied together in individual, rectangular boxes—these gift sets are nothing if not detail-oriented. The deep, blue boxes have several cut-out symbols, giving the recipient the option to use each box as a lantern. Remove the lid, and nothing is stopping you from using it as an indoor planter. The company’s goal was to provide light and playful design (they even give you stickers) to make up for the turbulent year we are leaving behind.

Vietnamese people often say, “Lòng vòng li ti Tet”, which means “in the bustle of daily life, Tet comes in the blink of an eye”. The words “lòng vòng” are also used to describe the action of making a circuit of something, like a chain of circles. After the long year it has been, we decided to name this Lunar New Year 2021’s gift set, Tet Lòng Vòng. Inspired by the closeness of Tet, "Lòng Vòng" is also the significant feature of this Tet gift box. These small, beautiful boxes are both designed to protect the gifts inside, and recyclable, so they can be put to various uses. Then, voilà, now it's your turn! In Vietnam, giving gifts to each other during festive seasons, especially Tet, remains one of the most popular customs to express one's sincerity and best wishes towards loved ones; however, the materials of said gifts are often the potential causes of environmental pollution if and when they are not collected properly.

The idea of Tet Lòng Vòng completes the beautiful gifts in a more meaningful way. Our solution is to use eco-friendly materials as well as encourage recipients to recycle the packages. We use 100% recycled carton papers and art papers certified by FSC as main materials for gift boxes. Isn't it more wonderful when your loved ones can keep your gifts longer throughout the year?

With the idea of using stickers to increase experiences and interactions, gift givers will be able to create their own, personalized gift boxes. The packaging blocks can later be reused for many different purposes such as making lanterns, planting pots, you name it.

While the gifts themselves bring the traditionally familiar set of colors of the Lunar New Year, the difference between this year’s box and past boxes, is that Tet Lòng Vòng does not blatantly represent traditional New Year themes. We have used the correlation between the darkness and light, to express the doubt felt throughout the last year. The light, on the other hand, represents the idea that we will find grown in 2021, together with hope of a new cycle. Mr. Roy Vu , Creative Director of this project stated, “This project is designed based on Human-Centered Design philosophy. In my opinion, the design should not only be beautiful, but must also meet the needs of customers. " 

The packaging of “Tet Lòng Vòng” is simple, but still enough to create excitement for users thanks to its interactive capabilities. Here, the hectic aspects of life are in balance with simplicity.
