We're Not Bluffing: Eames Office and Art Of Play Collaborate To Create a Series Of Luxury Playing Cards

Sitting around a cozy couch, fire crackling in the background with hot chocolate with marshmallows while playing a game of cards is the most quintessential winter scene. And, just in time for the season, design studio Eames Office, founded by Ray & Charles Eames, has partnered with the beloved wonder emporium, Art of Play, to design a limited-edition collection of designer playing cards.
Dropping today, November 19th, 2021, the cards feature designs from renowned artists, including the Pentagram team and Paula Scher. Not only are the decks refined and curated, but they're timeless, the perfect deck to last you a lifetime of playing.
The Director of the Eames Office (and a grandson of Charles and Ray) says, "Playing cards are the sort of platform that resonates with the Eames work—a deck of cards offers clear constraints, but as long as you satisfy those constraints, you have a great deal of freedom. And the mathematical side is fascinating as well (there is a whole slew of math puzzles and problems around the 52 cards in a standard deck)—which adds another layer, given the Eameses' delight in the pleasures of mathematics."
Furthermore, every deck arrives in a letterpress-printed tuck case, printed on sustainable paper using vegetable-based dyes. Subsequently, the cards are all made with materials designed and produced in the United States.
So if you're a lover of card games as well as a lover of mid-century American design, these playing cards are raising the stakes.
