Part of the charm of Netflix’s Stranger Things is the immersive world created for the show. The hit series uses impressive and period-accurate set dress to immerse the audience into the setting of the horror drama series. Production stays true to the 80s by adding film grain, for example. Animatronics get substituted for digital effects, and series creators, the Duffer Brothers, draw inspiration from maestros like Stephen King, John Carpenter, and Steven Spielberg to create a show that looks and feels from the 80s.

Beyond the screen, Stranger Things leverages its worldbuilding through partnerships and promotions, recreating the look and feel of the show through packaging. Ahead of season four, Netflix and General Mills have teamed up to offer a set of three specially made breakfast cereal boxes.

True to form, the boxes of Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cheerios take visual cues from the 1980s, using General Mills artwork from the time, as well as new graphics made in the style of the show. Callouts offering prizes such as a $1,000 shopping spree at Starcourt Mall, free Palace Arcade tokens, and a mail-in offer for a Wheeler toy van take up real estate on the boxes as well. The front panel is hinged and opens to reveal Stranger Things themed activities inside. Plus, there are upside-down elements, such as the General Mills logo and bowls of cereal, of course, and plenty of other references to Hawkins, Indiana, and the "unexplained" phenomena gripping the community.

However, the cereal boxes don’t come cheap at $19.86—the year season four will take place—but these are obviously intended as collector’s items and are available while supplies last at Netflix’s merch site.
