Scottish Myths Come To Life In Diageo's 'Legends Untold' Whisky Collection

by Rudy Sanchez on 10/07/2021 | 2 Minute Read

The nation of Scotland features a unique and special landscape, surrounded by the sea and sharing only one land border, but the mountainous area also includes over 31,000 standing bodies of water—or lochs. Unsurprisingly, this geography has inspired and served as a backdrop to rich mythology and folklore full of legends. Many are familiar with the Loch Ness Monster, of course, but Diageo’s latest whisky collection features eight other mythical creatures from Scottish lore.

Diageo’s 2021 single malt scotch whisky collection is a series of eight highly anticipated releases curated by master blender Dr. Craig Wilson, with this year’s theme being “Legends Untold.” Each whisky’s box and bottle features a different Scottish legend brought to life through dynamic and otherworldly illustrations by artist and designer Ken Taylor. To give scotch drinkers something more interesting to do on their phone than doomscroll, Diageo included an AR-enabled experience that adds another dimension to the bottle stories behind the legends of fiery beasts, fierce sea monsters, sprites, lions, and stallions.

“We have delved into the core characteristics of several classic distilleries for the Legends Untold collection. Taking inspiration from the mythical creatures of this year’s collection, we have revealed new depths of flavor and embraced the essence of each whisky’s unique profile revealing the legend it brings to life. This year’s collection is just the very beginning of the story,” Wilson said in the announcement of the whisky collection.

The entire Legends Untold collection, as well as individual bottles, are available now for pre-order at Diageo’s malts.com.
