Sappi Now Accepting Submissions For Its Ideas That Matter Design Grant Program

Published

Sappi North America has opened calls for entries to its annual Ideas that Matter grant program. For over 20 years, Sappi has funded transformative design ideas that improve lives and support communities.

For 2021, Ideas that Matter is also accepting applications that include paper packaging projects, in addition to print and digital communications. Entrants for this year’s competition must align their submissions to at least one of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Serving as the foundation for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the organization’s SDGs address global and human problems and includes no poverty, zero hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, clean and affordable energy, good jobs and economic growth, innovation, industry, and infrastructure, reduce inequality, sustainable communities, responsible consumption, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, and partnership.

Proposals will get judged on creativity, practicality, and potential. A panel of annually selected independent jurors and influential figures in the design world evaluate each project, and this year includes The Work Collective‘s Libby Cole, UnderConsideration co-founder Bryony Gomez-Palacio, senior deputy art director at AARP Dian Holton, founder and creative director of Modern Species Gage Mitchell, and Dieline’s CEO and Editor-In-Chief Andrew Gibbs.

“I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of Ideas that Matter, the only nonprofit design grant in the world. At a time where our world face so many challenges, and by asking participants to align their projects with one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Ideas that Matter is designed to empower creatives to change the world for the better,” says Andrew.

Applications must be received no later than January 7, 2022, 11:59 PM PST. Grants range from $5,000-50,000. To submit a project or learn more, visit the grant application page here.
