KÖVO Essentials Is Plant-Based CBD Skincare Wrapped Up in Fashionable Packaging

Our skin is full of endocannabinoid receptors, which means compounds like CBD can be absorbed transdermally, providing the purported effects of cannabinoids when applied, such as the reduction of inflammation and free radicals, the unstable molecules that can be destructive to cells and cause oxidative stress.

These characteristics make cannabis an ideal element in beauty and skincare, as evidenced by the litany of CBD beauty products that have recently come to market. But KÖVO Essentials distinguishes itself by being entirely plant-based and including quality ingredients that promote healthier, better-looking skin with bold and exquisitely chic packaging that looks right at place in boutiques or salons.

Founder Michael Sette’s goal was to create a visual impact on social media, a tall order in this day and age. With so much competition online, it’s not unexpected that KÖVO Essentials’ branding is dominated by a “hey, stop scrolling!” yellow and black palette, colors that can have the same effect when applied to an exotic sports car.

Sette was responsible for the visual identity, branding, and packaging design for his startup, tapping into his previous experience in the fashion industry, and Michael’s background certainly shines through, while also explaining the focus on social media, insisting on creating a memorable experience for consumers.

The thick, yellow boxes are minimal, with the panels dominated by negative space. The type choice compliments the sunshine exterior, and the contrast in color accentuates the on-box copy. A pull-tab adds to the premium feel, and the interior comes lined with a stylized “K,” “Ö,” and “V”  patterned-panel that reinforces the luxe nature of the product.

KÖVO Essentials is also, according to founder Sette, the first completely plant-based CBD + probiotic skincare brand. Their products also include bakuchiol, a plant-based alternative to Retinol, which is better for those with sensitive skin but still targets wrinkles and fine lines. All of the brand’s offerings are vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and don't use harmful and synthetic compounds like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

Although KÖVO Essentials is vegan, it doesn’t rely on plant-based visual tropes, nor does it rest on its synthetic and animal-free laurels; instead it attracts consumers with a smart, fashionable look that stand out.

CBD has long been touted for its healing properties, so it was inevitable that it would find its way into the realm of skincare and even more likely that it would get a luxe design treatment. If one were to set out and create a premium CBD skincare brand aimed at the fabulously fashionable, it may just very well look and feel like KÖVO Essentials.
