This Sanrio & Top Ramen Collaboration Just Made Your Lunch Extra-Adorbs

Instant ramen is a dish eaten around the globe, and not just because it’s inexpensive, filling, and easy to prepare- it is also versatile as the adding of an extra ingredient or two can turn the humble dish into a tastier bowl of noodle goodness.

Accompanying ramen with a boiled egg is one of the more popular ways folks love to doctor up an otherwise pedestrian meal, so it makes sense then, out of the deep roster of characters, Gudetama is now the face of the latest Top Ramen collaboration with the kawaii-factory known as Sanrio.

In addition to new packaging featuring the lazy egg, Top Ramen is also releasing videos across social media showcasing the Sanrio character, as well as merchandise on their online store later this spring.

Besides being an anthropomorphization of a ramen add-on, Gudetama is an exceptional (no puns here) choice for other reasons. The Sanrio character personifies Millennial angst; while Gudetama appears lazy, they’re, in fact, burdened by the trials and tribulations of modern life, including financial instability. If you’re a broke millennial struggling to get by, instant ramen presumably figures into your diet more often than you care to admit, and a boiled egg becomes a culinary luxury in your dystopian present. Gudetama is also often depicted as having a slightly runny yolk, which is the preferred consistency among ramen devotees.

Gudetama features on select Top Ramen flavors, including chicken and vegetarian soy, and the limited-edition packages are available now.
