Pharrell Launches Inclusive Wellness Brand Humanrace

Everyone has skin. It is a universal feature irrespective of gender, ethnicity, race, and age. Yet, most products are targeted specifically towards a subset of people. Rather than creating a complicated range of products aimed at a particular gender or skin color, recording artist and designer Pharrell Williams developed an inclusive brand of wellness products aptly called Humanrace.

The new brand’s lineup consists of a cleanser, exfoliator, and humidifier. That’s it, just three products based on Pharrell’s 3-minute face routine. Similarly, the packaging color is a gender and race-neutral green, and the lids feature the brand’s wordmark raised on the cover, executed in braille on the opposite side.

To reduce customer's plastic footprint, the packaging comes designed to be refillable. The inserts also use a foil-sealed top instead of a plastic lid, and they are recyclable after cleaning. Humankind’s product inserts are made from over 50% post-consumer recycled landfill plastic, and the outer cartons are FSC-certified and recyclable, printed using non-toxic vegetable dyes. Humankind calls its packaging sustainable, and while it is better than conventional personal care packaging, it still has a ways to go before it can genuinely be considered “sustainable."

Interest in the wellness brand has been strong, with restocks selling out quickly.
