Last week, A Plastic Planet and Control Union announced that they are partnering to expand A Plastic Planet's Plastic Free Certification mark globally.

From the press release:

At Packaging Innovations 2019, visitors will see the launch of a formidable partnership between Control Union and A Plastic Planet as they accelerate the roll out of the first global standardized Plastic Free Trust Mark for brands and producers.

Franco Costantini, managing director of Control Union UK, says he is excited to start the partnership with A Plastic Planet and further the roll out of this credible and sustainable scheme. “This partnership will give thousands more customers complete confidence that the products they’re buying with the Trust Mark are truly plastic free,” he says.

“Our engagement with this initiative demonstrates our commitment to support businesses operating sustainably. The Plastic Free initiative is an important addition which fits well within our portfolio of sustainability programmes.”

A Plastic Planet, established in 2017, aims to ‘wean’ consumers off the unnecessary use of plastic, without demonising the important material.

Mr. Costantini explains that A Plastic Planet has been extremely successful at creating awareness of problems associated with plastic among businesses and individuals. “Thanks to our global presence and our expertise with certifications, Control Union will be able to support A Plastic Planet in the growth of truly plastic-free products.”

Sian Sutherland, co-founder of A Plastic Planet says alongside Control Union over the last three years they have been focused on helping businesses switch to plastic-free solutions. “Our new partnership with Control Union will accelerate this essential pace of change, empowering shoppers to easily choose plastic-free on crowded supermarket shelves. “We need to champion brands that aren’t adding to the plastic pollution crisis and this partnership announcement is just the beginning.”
