Metsä Board 'Better With Less' Design Challenge Returns For 2019-2020, Jury Announced

Metsä Board has announced their second annual Better with Less Packaging Challenge for 2019-2020. The contest seeks to inspire designers to not only create a better package for the consumer, but also design packaging better for the environment, pushing innovation to create sustainable alternatives that don’t compromise upon packaging’s primary functions; designing packaging that makes a tremendous impact IN the world while reducing the impact ON the world.

The inaugural Better With Less Design Challenge drew over 300 submissions from 38 countries; last year’s winner Iiro Numminen used design to create an alternative to bubble wrap. "Stretching Inner Part,” a corrugated box with an insert that attaches to the shipped product, eliminates the need for plastic reinforcement of the popping variety.

This year’s jury panel includes Dieline’s own Andrew Gibbs, Editor-in-Chief of luxury packaging magazine Formes de Luxe Alissa Demorest, Chief Creative Officer for Chase Design Group Clark Goolsby, Professor in Packaging Technology at Beuth University Of Applied Sciences Stefan Junge, Packaging Services Director for EMEA and Metsä Board IIkka Harju, and Founder & Chief Brand Consultant of MCL Group Hong Kong/China Charles Ng.

The challenge will begin accepting submissions in four categories: Cosmetics, E-Commerce, Food Packaging, and a Wild Card, with the final set of rules and submissions opening in September.
