Listen, there’s fish sauce, and then there’s Colatura di Alici.
Colatura di Alici translates to “anchovy drippings” in Italian, and while this astonishing liquid shares much in common with fish sauce, the real difference is time. You take anchovy and salt, layer them in wooden barrels, and you let them ferment for three years. During that time, the anchovies release liquid, and at the end of three years, they tap the barrel, the liquid passes through a layer of supremely ripe fish, and, voila, you bottle it. It’s insanely decadent and delicious.
And when you have such an extravagant product that requires genuine time and care, sometimes you want the packaging to match the delicacy. And that’s just what Lettera7 did for Armatore and their limited-edition bottle of sweet, sweet (actually salty) anchovy drippings.
From Lettera7:
Lettera7 conceived this limited-edition bottle for Armatore in order to valorize the unique flavors of Colatura di Alici through another symbol of Cetara, the art of pottery.
A precious liquid distilled from the sea, the so-called “Cetara’s Gold," is kept in a handcrafted ceramic jar that became an emotional Special Edition. Two typical expressions of Cetara, the little ancient fishing village at the beginning of Costiera Amalfitana and one of the most charming places in Italy, stay together for Armatore.
The Sea Gipsy, embodies the history of a family that has been sailing the Mediterraneo’s waters from decades, fishing and transforming only the best of bluefin tuna and anchovies.
The knotty hands of craftsmen shape the sea and the ground giving life to a new experience. Lettera7 shaped this project with the same attitude.
